Behavioural diversity is critical in the making of a high performing team

In this Scooby Doo series, we’ve been looking at this awesome crew through the Belbin lens! We’ve already seen Scooby, Shaggy and Fred! Now it’s time to look at Velma Dinkley, popularly known as the brains of the team.

What could be Velma’s top two Belbin Team Roles?

Monitor Evaluator and Completer Finisher

Monitor Evaluator : Analytical, logical, sober, evaluates objectively

Completer Finisher : Painstaking, conscientious, anxious, searches out errors, polishes and perfects

With all that logic and cold analysis, we’re unsure if Velma even has a right brain. If you’re a Scooby Doo fan, I’m sure you remember that Velma’s always the one to expose the villain. Right from the beginning, she doesn’t believe in the existence of Ghosts.

I mean, there’s no logical explanation for ghosts being real, right? Velma doesn’t rest until she finds a logical explanation to everything.

What’s more, she puts in a painstaking amount of effort into her pursuits. Every little detail, every little clue matters. She’ll go lengths to make sure no stone is left unturned. She beautifully ties up all loose ends!

Although very smart, poor Velma constantly loses her glasses! But once she finds them, she’s back to action!

MEs and CFs are usually considered “dull, boring”. After all nobody likes a critic. But can you imagine a Team without a critic? Without a perfectionist? Chaos would reign. Ideas will not be analysed, loose ends will remain loose. Every team needs all nine Team Roles. Behavioural diversity is what makes a high performing team.
